
AFTER Liverpool was crowned Capital of Culture 2008 many spectacular sights have arrived in Liverpool, such as the Lamb Bananas, but many other luxurious buildings and events were already something that generally took place in Liverpool, such as the Liver Building and the Albert Dock.
The History of Liverpool
The foundation of the borough of Liverpool was discovered by King John's letters patent of 1207, about 500 still lived here in the 16th century. The original street plan of Liverpool is said to have been designed by King John near the same time it was granted a royal charter, making it a borough.The original seven streets were laid out in a H shape:
Letters Patent of King John to Liverpool, 28th August 1207-
"John, by the grace of God, King of England, Lord of Ireland, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine, Count of Anjou, to all his faithful people who have desired to have Burgages in the township of Liverpool that they may may have all the liberties and free customs in the township of Liverpool which any Free Borough on the sea has in our land. And therefore we command that securely and in our peace you come there to receive and inhabitat our Burgages. And in witness hereof we transmit to you these our Letters Patent. Witness Simon de Pateshill at Winchester on the twenty-eighth day of August in the ninth year of our reign."
